TE Reo māori goal

Show my commitment to Te Ao Māori and look for ways to include Mātauranga Māori and Māori contexts in my teaching practises and pedagogical approaches. I will also look for ways to include te reo Māori in my teaching, with a focus on correct pronunciation.

Weekly steps

Week 1

Rangatiratanga:

Opening karakia/waiata at the start of the day during Tikanga and encourage akonga to bring and read their own karakia.

Speaking te reo Māori consistently through lessons, such as Ka pai - Well Done, Tino pai - very good etc.

Week 2

Whanaungatanga:

Enhancing and encouraging akonga's cultural identity through their connections of their whakapapa. Creating a visual pepeha for their own cultural connections and their own identities. Through this we can strengthen our relationship and create a sense of unity, belonging and cohesion.

Week 3

Manaakitanga

Encouraging akonga to talk positively to one another, showing generosity and care. We can do this by showing appraisal through te reo Māori, for example:

Ngā mihi, tēnā koe, tēnā kōrua, tēnā koutou, tēnā tātou  - Thank you (you two, all of you, all of us

Anō nei tō (kaha, māia, ataahua, pukumahi. Katahi nei tō  - ...You have so much (strength, bravery, beauty, hardwork)

Koia kei a koe! You've certainly got it!
